Valeggio sul Mincio is situated among the hills which characterize the area south of Lake Garda (Moraine Hills), where the once famous families of Verona and Mantua, ‘Scaligeri and Gonzaga’, fought for its possession. Valeggio has always been an ideal crossroads for travelers who moved westwards, or southwards from Tyrol to the Po valley.

Valeggio sul Mincio was a strategic military point in the medieval times and evidence of the past is still visible. The Veronese Castle dominates the Mincio valley with its rare beauty and its age old tower. The splendid  700 metre long Bridge-Damn-Fortress, built by Gian Galeazzo Visconti towards the end of the 14^th century, crosses the Mincio valley. The marvelous village of Borghetto, with its old mills, rises at the bottom of this historical bridge.

From the beginning of the last century many restaurateurs established themselves in the vicinity and nowadays Valeggio is known throughout the world for its high quality food, in particular its ‘Tortellini’, also called “Love Knots”. The tradition of home made pasta has been handed down from generation to generation and is celebrated annually on the third Tuesday of June with the festival of ‘La Tavolata del Nodo d’Amore’, that takes place on the long bridge.

An extraordinary mix of natural and historical beauties makes this region one of the most attractive areas in northern Italy. Furthermore it is also famous for its typical local products which can sampled at any of the numerous restaurants and wine cellars.

Due to its geographical location, Valeggio sul Mincio is convenient for making trips to beautiful cities of art, such as Verona, Mantua, Milan, Trent, Venice and the famous Lake Garda, which is only 8 km far  from the Village of Borghetto.
